Alejandro Portela (bass clarinet) and Petar Terziev (voice) meet in Barcelona while studying jazz together. They soon discover that the combined sound of their instruments creates a rather unique blend, very rarely exploited in jazz or modern tradition. The baritone voice of Terziev is treated as a horn and, together with the bass clarinet, takes you on journey of nuanced sounds and improvisation.
Portela and Terziev will perform original music, some of which is written especially for their Bulgarian tour. The two young musicians have a shared vision of modern jazz, drawing inspiration from musicians like Brian Blade, Kenny Garrett, Immanuel Wilkins and many more.
Alejandro Portela is a young bass clarinetist, composer and arranger from Spain. Currently a student of ESMUC, Barcelona he’s played with Melissa Aldana, Abe Rábade y Gonzalo del Val. His music is introspective and explores pivotal moments in life. The compositions are inspired by folklore music from Galicia, Spain but also by the sound of bass clarinet and voice put together.
Petar Terziev is a singer from Sofia, Bulgaria, currently living in Barcelona. He’s performed with some of the most experienced Bulgarian musicians like Vasil Spassov, Dimitar Karamfilov, Velislav Stoyanov and has toured the country not a few times, performing at Stara Zagora Jazz Festival, Jazz Under The Stars and many more.
He starts this quintet project drawing inspiration from the unique sound of bass clarinet, an instrument that he likes so much, he wants to compose for it right away.
Terziev and Portela are joined by some of the most renowned Bulgarian musicians in forming this international quintet, which you will have the pleasure to witness.

Daniela Belcheva – vocals Vasil Spasov – piano & arrangements Mihail Ivanov – double bass Dimitar Semov – drums At the heart of this project lies the extraordinary influence of one of the most emblematic figures in 20th-century music — Joni Mitchell. Created in 2023 to mark the icon’s 80th anniversary, the project pays tribute to her incomparable music and spirit. The Canadian singer and artist is a 10-time Grammy Award winner, the creator of 19 studio albums, and a collaborator with legends such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, and Charles Mingus. Her music continues to inspire generations of artists, including Madonna, Prince, Seal, Björk, Elton John, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift. “We, the musicians in this project, share a deep respect for Joni. She changed the world of popular music and continues to move audiences with her philosophical lyrics, unconventional compositions, and profound worldview,” says Daniela Belcheva. “This is our interpretation of some of her most beloved songs — Big Yellow Taxi, A Case of You, Both Sides Now, Hejira, and others.
